San Diego Vacay: Day Three

August 15, 2011

We had a fun day; beginning with a long walk, a drive down to San Diego to visit with baby Jack, relaxed at the Harbor in the afternoon, then had a nice dinner at home and ended the evening with a Wii hula hoop marathon.

Next stop: casino. :-)

BigSisLilSis 10 Day San Diego Vacay: Day One

August 13, 2011

Woo Hoo! The much anticipated family vacay has officially began!  The morning started by me picking up BigSis, SisMama, BDot, and Tay at the San Diego airport.

Ya think they have enough luggage to last 10 days?

Then, we proceeded DIRECTLY to Bry’s house to introduce baby Jack to his great grandmama, great aunt, great uncle and second cousin.

Could there be anything more adorable than these sweet, little baby’s hands?

Then, as tradition has it, we always start off every visit with a trip to a local Mexican food restaurant for some yummy food and a couple of nice cold cervezas.

(Apparently BigSis was thirsty; cause while I was parking the car, she got a little head start on me.)

I’m so excited and grateful that my boss gave me the entire ten days off  to visit with my family. We’ll be super, duper busy this week trying to cram in everything that we want to see and do, but we’ll be posting some photos along the way if we have anything fun to share! :-)

In Loving Memory

July 30, 2011

Eternity

He who binds to himself a joy
Does the winged life destroy;
But he who kisses the joy as it flies
Lives in eternity’s sun rise.

~William Blake

Each year, we take this day, July 30th, to mention our Dad’s birthday. This is the fifth year that we haven’t been able to celebrate his birthday with him and we still miss him every single minute of every day, not just on birthdays or special occasions.

We loved our dad and we know how much he loved us. Even though our lives will never be the same without him, we choose to believe that he’s with us in spirit, even though not in body.

Baking and Crafting and Cleaning…oh my!

June 6, 2011

We’ve been busy little bees lately. Wanna guess what we were up to?

We made these…

Crispy Cheese Crackers

Crispy Cheese Crackers

and these…

bought these…

assembled this…

made these…

put these together…

got the back yard ready for guests…

and tried to keep TomTom out of everything…

Aren't you going to unwrap it for me?

You said the bassinet was for the baby!

If you guessed we had a baby shower you’d be right!

Saturday we hosted the shower for Bry and his wife Rach’s soon-to-arrive little boy, so we spent a few days baking, cleaning, planning and crafting.

We had a lot of fun putting the shower together and can’t wait to share some of the ideas with you.  We’ll be back soon with the recipe for the cheese crackers and the directions for the fabric-wrapped letters.

But for now, there are more important things to do on my last day in San Diego, like walking on the beach and eating more Mexican food.  Adios!

Happy Memorial Day

May 30, 2011

We wish everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day!

Last weekend, I attended a function called Operation Appreciation which was held at the Oceanside Pier in honor of Military Appreciation Day.

It was a great day because I was able to watch my son, Bry, with his Naval Unit working on the beach during the LCAC demonstration.

Here are just a few shots that I wanted to share today.

Our entire family is extremely proud of our newly-promoted Petty Officer!

We want to thank everyone

who has or is serving in our U.S. Military for sacrificing

their lives each and every day

to protect our country.

And, we honor all who have made the ultimate

sacrifice and lost their lives while serving our country.

Today is a day to remember them all!

Memories.

January 21, 2011

They say that scents bring back memories more than anything.

We’d have to agree with that.

There are some scents that bring back childhood memories, and

there are certain scents that remind you of someone special.

Coffee brewing and bacon frying early in the morning,

a brisket cooking in the oven,

the aroma of flavored pipe tobacco.

Those things will make both of us look around the room for our Dad.

Then we realize.

He’s not here.

He left us.

4years ago.

Today.

January 21st.

It’s a date that we don’t like to remember, but will never forget.

Never a dull moment.

August 31, 2010

We’ve had some big events going on these past couple of weeks in our world, which definitely took some of our time away from BigSisLilSis.

Here are just a few things that have been happening:

  • Two weeks ago, BigSis and I met in Chicago for a long weekend to meet Bry’s fiance.
  • Last week, I had a training class in Dallas and BigSis was nice enough, after working a full day, to pick me up every night so we could go to dinner.
  • HayHay started his Junior year in high school last Thursday.
  • Bry got married in Illinois on Saturday. (Yes, without family present; sniffle, sniffle…)
  • Bry also learned that he will be stationed here in San Diego and may be relocating as soon as next month! (Hip, hip, hurray!)
  • BigSis spent the whole weekend at WordCamp Dallas; 25 different sessions to be exact!  Ask her about it if you’re interested in the scoop!
  • My little guy, HayHay’s 17th birthday was yesterday.
  • My 19th wedding anniversary is today.
  • And, I’m anxiously awaiting to hear about my first assignment for my new job.

I’m ready for things to settle down and get back to normal, but I don’t even know what normal is any more. I think I’m going to have to redefine “my normal”.  Thankfully, we have a long holiday weekend coming up!

BigSis and I will be getting back on track soon and are also working on some new ideas for our site. Hopefully, we’ll be ready to announce a few changes in September!

We hope everyone had a great summer!  :-)   Now, what’s going on in your world!  Tell us; it’ll make us feel better about our craziness!
