To Die For Desserts

November 6, 2009

How am I ever going to get through this Holiday Season without gaining a pound or two, or ten? Seriously!

I don't even have a sweet tooth, but lately I find myself drooling, (literally) over the lavish amount of desserts featured on some of my favorite food blogs!

I'm one of those people who never thinks about making a dessert when I host a party or have friends over for dinner. (I know, I know, that's rude.) I guess since I don't eat dessert, I forget that for some people, dinner just isn't complete without dessert. Now, when I have a get together, my friends and family will usually call and offer to bring the dessert. (Because they know if they don't, then we won't have one.) I'm going to try to work on that.

If I made a dessert every night, I'd probably be as big as a house, but I do need to treat my guys, who both have a sweet tooth, to an occasional treat. I'm also going to try some of these recipes for the holidays and maybe even surprise my friends with a dessert at our next dinner party. (They would be shocked!)

In no particular order, here are several “to die for” desserts that I can't wait to try. If these don't make you drool, nothing will!

  • Pumpkin Swirl Brownies from The Kitchen Sink Recipes

And last, but not least,

(Yeah, I know BigSisLilSis isn't technically a food blog, but she is my sister and this is my post so I'm including her cake recipe. )

It would appear that maybe I do have a sweet tooth, after all! 🙂

Could someone please tell me how you can make such amazing, tempting desserts on a regular basis and keep from eating half of it yourself? Do you share it with neighbors, take it to work or invite a bunch of teenagers over to devour it? Or is it just plain and simple will power? I'd love to know your secret!

This is a very tempting list! Thanks for the mention too. When I bake cookies or bars, I usually put half of them in the freezer so I don’t feel like they all have to eaten right away. And, then I end up eating a bunch right away anyway and spend more time running off the calories.

great collection–thanks for including one of my favorites!
incidentally, the whole purpose of the holiday season for me (aside from quality family time, of course) is to eat sweets. the pounds can always come off later, right??? 🙂

    Hi Lisa,
You’re very welcome. I can’t wait to make your Oatmeal Maple Bars. I know that I’ll have to freeze some and hide the rest, (from myself).

    Hi Grace,
You’re very welcome. I know I’ll be making some sweets this holiday season, but I have to be really careful. Five pounds doesn’t come off as easy as it did when I was younger! 🙂

I started keeping recipes online over 10 years ago but had kids here to eat the results of my cooking. Now that both daughters are on their own I decide to start a blog? Seems that neighbors and friends are OK with that cause they sure do benefit! When I don’t get help, I freeze. Have to or I would finish off that plum tart or batch of cookies all by myself!

    Hi Barbara,
Thanks for stopping by and for taking the time to leave a comment. When I start doing more baking, I think my neighbors will benefit also. Or, if I really don’t want something sticking around the house for long, I could just ask my teenage son to invite his friends over. 🙂

I hope you try the cheesecake!

I’d gain a million pounds if I ate normal size portions of all the stuff I make. What I do is just take small portions (like one or two cookies) then give the rest away. Sometimes it’s really hard to stick with small portions, though. Like today all I can think about is this batch of chocolate chip cookies that’s sitting in a bag in the kitchen.

    Hi Anna,
I’m definitely going to try your cheesecake recipe. Cheesecake has always been one of the few desserts that tempt me. And yours with the cherry topping reminds me of the cherry cream cheese pie that my mom used to make.

As much as you bake, I’m sure you’ve got some very happy friends and neighbors! 🙂

I take my goodies to my office. They know that I have a diabolical plan…if I can make them all gain weight then I’ll look thinner by contrast. Mwah ha ha ha ha ha.

Hey, I’m a little slow, but eventually I get around. Great list, can’t wait to check some of them that I’ve missed out. Thanks for the shout out about “my” Holiday bundt cake. It was really good and I’m sure I’ll make it again sometime. Thanks, Ladies!
