Okay, what was I just talking about a couple of days ago before BigSis had to throw in the Triple Chocolate Birthday Cake recipe? Oh yeah, I was talking about trying to lose 5 pounds before Summer! π
Thanks for the recipe, BigSis, but there ain't no way I'm going to have something that good in this house when I'm trying to lose weight and trying to get SirHoney to eat more fruits and veggies!
It's so nice to be able to make something like that and take it to work to share with everyone. I know they all love it when you bring one of your homemade treats to work to share!
I bet this chick doesn't eat cake!
We're always looking up the science behind weight loss and coming up with diets or interesting theories (such as this “alternative to not eating” for men, science is apparently still undecided if the same would work for women.) I want to share an interesting article that I just read in the June edition of whole living body+soul magazine. The title of the article is “Secrets to Healthy Weight Loss.” After speaking with several weight-loss experts, the writer of the article identifies the eight most common reasons people struggle with their weight. Additionally, losing weight might be one way to last longer in the bedroom too!
Here are the 8 Biggest Obstacles:
- Not enough exercise
- The wrong foods
- Mindless eating
- Getting older
- Poor portion control
- Stress and fatigue
- Goal plateau
- Yo-yo dieting
So, you're supposed to find the one that best describes your biggest obstacle and follow their strategies. If you fit into more than one category, you just combine the strategies to best address your needs.
I think that I fit into three of these categories. Those would be Getting Older, Stress, and Goal Plateau. Within each category, there are three or four solutions on how to overcome these obstacles. They actually have some pretty good suggestions.
You can read the entire “Secrets to Healthy Weight Loss” article here on whole living. As always, we appreciate any comments or suggestions that you may have for us! If you'd rather see more awesome chocolate cake recipes instead of reading about weight loss problems, you just let me know and I'll put BigSis right on it! π

Hey LilSis, I clicked over and read that article on body and soul magazine. It did have some good ideas. I have the same challenges as you, especially the age thing. I’m working out 8 to 10 times a week and feel like I’m barely maintaining. Back in the day, I could eat much more and work out much less and still be in pretty good shape. Darn hormones!!

Great post and as a someone who is now half her size in clothes I can tell you it is a daily battle and every meal is a choice and must be a conscious one. I work hard at maintaining every day but Food never tastes as good as thin feels!!!

Hi Cathy,
Thanks! There sure aren’t many people who can say that they are half the size they used to be. That’s an amazing accomplishment. I know that it is a daily battle and you’ve got to be very proud of yourself for maintaining your weight. I’ve always loved that quote, “Food never tastes as good as thin feels”.

BigSis – Yeah, back in the day is right… let’s try to stay positive even though it is becoming VERY difficult!!!

That was a great article with lots of suggestions! It’s so hard to diet and lose. I say, eat very close to the earth and it helps.

What if all eight are your biggest obstacles? Ha!! Oh my, but I’m in trouble. Actually it is probably the age thing, the stress/fatigue thing in a huge way, and not enough exercise (bad knees). I have lost 20+ pounds so far, but have a ways to go. BigSis’ cake recipe sounds like a recipe for sabotage! Thanks, LilSis, for your visit today and all the comments! So fun to see those. =)

That picture of that gal with her finger in her belly button… I hate her. P.S…. I eat cake by the row. I even made a “Girls who eat cake by the row” group on Facebook. I am THAT passionate about cake. π

Hi Noble Pig – You’re definitely right on that one. The more fruits and veggies the better!

Toni – Ha!! Yep, all eight would definitely be an issue, huh? I definitely this us women have a much harder time as we get older because of the hormonal aspect that men don’t have to deal with.

Hi Jenny – HaHa!! Yeah, I bet she hasn’t had any kids either! I’m just jealous because I wish my tummy looked like that.
I don’t really eat any sweets, but staying away from pizza, Mexican food, or cheese and crackers is my problem!
